# Roommates, earlier this week, people were outraged by the news that a woman had been brutally sexually assaulted while on a train in Philadelphia, and many bystanders recorded the attack instead of helping her or calling authorities. In an update, law enforcement officials now say that despite calls to accuse passers-by, it is very “unlikely” that this will happen.

@ 6ABCActionNews reports that local Philadelphia prosecutors are fully investigating the case against 35-year-old Fiston Ngoy, who brutally raped a woman on a SEPTA train – but don’t expect those who witnessed the attack and filmed it instead of helping a defendant in the case. Delaware County Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Margie Maccaboy said: “An investigation is still open, but we are not expected to charge passengers at the moment.” Asked by local media, prosecutors did not specify why casualties were unlikely.

On October 13th, after being repeatedly groped and grabbed by Nygoy during a 40-minute train journey, the woman (who remains unidentified) tore her pants and was sexually raped between 6 and 8 minutes on the train before police officers appeared, to arrest the suspects. During this time, it is said that many passengers recorded the attack, but no one called the police – a SEPTA officer called the authorities after noticing a strange activity.

In addition, local authorities declined to reveal exactly how many passengers on the train witnessed the sexual violence, but said some of them were definitely holding their phones in the direction of the attack to record it. SEPTA Police Chief Thomas J. Nestel III said “up to 10 people” had probably seen some of what had happened.

There is also no information from Philadelphia police whether or not they have uncovered any videos or photos of the attack that may have been posted online.
