As the death of 23-year-old Lauren Smith-Fields continues to gain popularity on social media, the world continues to demand justice while seeking the person responsible for her death to be arrested. Connecticut public officials are listening to and dealing with law enforcement that they believe has wronged her and another deceased black woman. According to NBC Connecticut, Bridgeport Mayor Joseph P. Ganim intervened and removed two detectives.

Reports show that Mayor Ganin announced late Sunday that Detectives Kevin Cronin and Angel Lanos, appointed to the cases of Lauren and Brenda Lee Rawls, have been officially removed. In a live broadcast yesterday, Mayor Ganin expressed his condolences to the families of the two women. During the broadcast, he said he was “extremely disappointed with the leadership of the Bridgeport Police Department and finds the actions taken so far unacceptable.”

If you are not aware of the death of Brenda, 53, she died on December 12, the same day as Lauren. Brenda’s family claims that the police did not investigate her death or did not take the case seriously. In addition, Brenda and Lauren’s families were not notified by the authorities of their deaths. The families of the two women say they learned of the death from a landlord and a neighbor.

The interior intervened to investigate Detectives Cronin and Lanos. Men are also subject to disciplinary action for insensitivity to society and non-compliance with police policy. Lauren and Brenda’s deaths are still being investigated and reassigned to the police station. “The Bridgeport Police Department has high standards of employee sensitivity, especially on issues related to the death of a family member,” said Mayor Ganim. “This is an unacceptable failure if policies are not followed.

The cause of Brenda’s death is unclear, and Lauren’s has been declared an accident. Roommates, we will keep you posted when more information becomes available.
