“When I go to do home inspections, usually the best place to collect dust is under the main bed,” Blazer told mbg. “This is a place that is not cleaned very often, people don’t usually move things under it very often and it gets pretty nasty.”

This is a pretty serious problem with a nice simple solution: Be diligent in cleaning this often overlooked area. Blazer says vacuuming under your bed once a week would not be excessive – especially if you have carpets that tend to trap more dust than hardwood.
In the process, you will need to move everything you store under your bed. This is another reason to unload the household goods, memories and clothes you keep down there, or at least store them in boxes that are easy to maneuver. To stay on top of your new under-bed cleaning routine, you can include it in a weekly ritual of washing sheets (bed linen is another huge source of irritants and allergens). While you’re at it, you may want to vacuum your mattress, just in case.
