I share my thoughts on the Sculpt Society and whether I would recommend this workout!

Hello friends! How was the weekend? I hope you had a wonderful one. We celebrated Liv’s birthday with friends and also enjoyed a long walk with Macy. It was the perfect weekend.

For today’s post, I’m excited to share a new training format for me: Sculpt Society! I was focused on this forever and since I always love trying new workouts and I absolutely love dance cardio, I decided to do it. This training program was founded by Megan Rupp (you can check out her Instagram here) and I will share the full review below. Review of the Sculpt Society

What is the Sculpt Society?

As I mentioned above, the Sculpt Society was founded by coach Megan Rupp and is a mix of dance cardio, bar, Pilates and traditional strength. Megan worked as a professional dancer for the Brooklyn Nets and developed this style of training in 2017. She says: “I wanted to create a program that would help women achieve their goals and still have fun. My mission with the The Sculpt Society training app is to enable women through movement, to stand in their bodies with confidence and strength, and to feel their best. ”(Source)

Training

You can find over 400 classes in The Sculpt Society’s app and website. When you log in for the first time, you’ll see a sample weekly schedule, live video schedule, popular videos, and programs to follow.

Classes are also organized in segments: Gentle + Classes for beginners, 30 minutes of sculpture, 30 minutes of dance cardio (my personal favorite), 30 minutes of whole body, 45-50 minutes of whole body, body lessons, stretching + yoga . There is also a “First Steps” section that breaks down general exercises and suggests modifications. I will focus on some of my favorite Sculpt Society workouts below:

30 min. Dance cardio

As I mentioned above, this is my favorite. Combos are more athletic and simple, easy to follow, but still a lot of fun. This is difficult when teaching mixed levels of dance ability, and I think beginners to advanced dancers would enjoy these combinations. The beauty of online cardio dance classes is that you can pause the video and practice movement until you get it and then continue. Don’t be afraid if you don’t consider yourself a “dancer!” These classes involve a lot of jumping, but you can absolutely change it to a low-impact workout.

For these classes, you can expect a short warm-up, an athletic dance combo to build on, a break for arm and abdomen segments, and then back to the combo to complete.

Quick workouts: arms, abdomen and whole body

Fast workouts are 15-25 minutes and focus on different muscle groups. They are a good addition to other strength or cardio workouts and focus on bar-style endurance exercises (full-range movements, impulses and restraints). These are also great workouts when you don’t have much time but want to move your body.

Sculpture training

They are about 30 minutes and use light weights along with extra resistance tape. These are also more based movements, with a lot of core stabilization, side series, work with booty and ab burners. I think this is a smart way to change traditional strength training, especially if you do a lot more training with hypertrophy or circuit training (10-15 reps, moderate weights). This will challenge you in a completely different way and I like the extra core stability of many of these exercises.

What equipment do you need?

You don’t need a lot of equipment for these workouts. I’ve only done a few, but I’ve only seen light weights, a resistance loop, a Pilates ball and extra ankle weights in training.

Benefits and results

– You can participate in a great workout at home in your living room or while traveling, with minimal equipment.

I really like Megan and her learning style. The over-mood of fake fitness instructors doesn’t work for me and I usually look for trainers who look like nice, normal people (a huge reason I love Les Mills workouts so much! They’re motivating, not artificial.). I also find that I work harder when the instructor speaks normally instead of loud and excited, haha. Megan is in a really great mood and although she has branded slogans or performs solo dance breaks (hello Peloton), she is energetic and gives great lines. (There are other trainers in the app, but I haven’t tried their classes yet.)

– As regards the results, it absolutely depends on how often you do these workouts and how the other basic habits in life go (sleep, stress management, nutrition, hydration, etc.). I feel like it’s a solid combination of strength, cardio, mobility, core work and stretching – I’d just make sure to include a few days off each week and at least 1 day of strenuous fatigue training.
