How to make your own “beer”


Every fall we get the urge to watch all the Harry Potter movies. Someone else?

There is just a lot of autumn mood in these movies and we are here for that! Which, since it’s basically September and everything else, is exactly why this cookbook caught our attention (HP fans are coming together!):

One simple and fun recipe that caught our attention was for Butterscotch Beer – which, because it’s for kids, is not beer at all. Instead, it’s a glass full of bliss that you can sip while pretending to be at Three Broomsticks or any other imaginary wizard bar you like.

Fortunately, we’ve received permission from the publisher to share with you this delicious Butterscotch beer recipe. So, take your best magician or witch hat, your clothes and your big mugs and let’s have fun with beer butter!

Buttercotch Beer Recipe

The world’s favorite witch, this “beer” recipe allows you to enjoy a cup full of candy whenever you want, even if you’re not in a wizard’s bar.

Course: Drinks

Portions: 4

  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 h.h. kosher salt
  • 2 h.h. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 20 ounce lemon lime soda
  • ice
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

  • When the butter has melted, add the brown sugar, salt and vanilla extract. Beat to combine.

  • Cook the mixture for 5 minutes until the brown sugar is completely dissolved.

  • Whip the liquid whipping cream and continue cooking for 1 minute.

  • Allow this mixture to cool to room temperature, 15 minutes.

  • When cool, divide between 4 large glasses, half filled with ice.

  • Drizzle slowly with baking soda, but be careful not to overfill, as the mixture will form bubbles and foam! Stir to mix and enjoy.
