Donald Trump suggests Haitian migrants enter US “likely to have AIDS”

Former President Donald Trump recently launched an unwarranted attack on Haitian immigrants entering the United States. Speaking to Fox News, the businessman speculated that hundreds of thousands of Haitians were “flowing in” and “probably having AIDS.”

Trump used a prime-time television interview Thursday night with host Sean Hannity to make his baseless allegations. In addition to his comment on health, he gave an alleged warning to Americans, saying that allowing Haitians to enter the United States was “like a death wish for our country.”

“Haiti has a huge problem with AIDS,” Trump told Fox News live.
“AIDS is a step beyond, AIDS is a really bad problem. “So hundreds of thousands of people come to our country. And if you look at the statistics and look at the numbers, look at what’s happening in Haiti. A huge problem with AIDS. “

It is not clear where Trump got his information from. Nothing he said has any supporting evidence. This does not include the accuracy of Haitian immigrants and migrants who are actively entering the United States

Still, according to Business Insider, his remarks reflect similar comments he made earlier to Haitians when he was president of the United States. This includes his comments from 2017, when he said that 15,000 Haitian immigrants who received a US visa “all have AIDS” according to The New York Times. At the time, the White House rejected it, denying using the words specifically.

Then, in 2018, he attacked Haitian immigrants against a report by The Washington Post. Trump called Haiti a “sh * tole” state and later took to Twitter to use what he called “rough” language.

Moreover, Business Insider reports a statistically low number of HIV cases among Haitians, according to UN data. Apparently, the prevalence of HIV is only about 1.9 percent of adults in Haiti between the ages of 15 and 49. It exceeds the global percentage of 0.7 percent, but is reportedly steadily declining in recent years.
