Black Twitter caused users on the social site to joke after finding humor in the news about another version of Covid-19. By now, you’ve probably heard that Covid-19 is being remixed again. From the standard Covid-19 we switched to the Delta variant and now the global one is facing the Omicron variant. Still, the virus doesn’t seem to curb pleasant laughter. Early Tuesday, thousands of tweets were engaged in renaming or recognizing the new nickname of the variant: Omarion.
“Waking up to find out that Black ppl has collectively decided that the new version of Covid is not Omicron… but the Omarion variant. I really love you “, wrote the owner of the account @_priestly.
And the jokes keep hitting
The moment is another list in Omarion’s viral autobiography. Earlier this year, the artist gave fans a little hard dance on stage while wearing the famous red coat. A short clip from the moment raised the internet in a rage. For days, users on social media platforms created and engaged in memes and remake videos. Now this same look and video are inspiring memes for the Omicron variant.
“They say to keep the Omarion variant away, you have to do this routine 3 times in the mirror,” tweeted @aura_of_gold along with a video of Omarion’s viral dance.
Twitter users have also dug up Omarion’s music catalog to bring out more funny stuff. From his lyrics to his music videos, people have found ways to associate Omicron with his unofficial name and face. On the other hand, some people seemed to think that “Omarion” was the real name of the variant.
“I’m crying, I saw the Omicron version and I read Omarion and I said, ‘Damn, who calls these things,'” tweeted @RanIstheITgirl.
“N *** a, I’m sitting here like Omarion got this shit,” user @ConsciousBuddah said.
President Biden talks about Omicron
Putting the jokes aside, the option causes some stress while scientists work to understand its effects. Several countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and Russia, to name a few, have already imposed travel restrictions from South African countries, according to the NPR.
Just yesterday, President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Omicron.
“First, this option is a cause for concern, not panic. We have the best vaccine in the world. The best drugs, the best scientists and we learn more every day. And we will fight this option with scientific and informed action and speed. Not chaos and confusion, “said President Biden.
