Black transsexual comedian, Flame Monroe, comes in defense of Dave Chapel and its special Netflix The Closer after the reaction he received.
Speaking to TMZ, Monroe says that making jokes about the LGBTQ + community is fair play and something that is unique in the world of comedy is that nothing is forbidden.
“As a comedian, I believe I don’t want to be censored,” she said. “The world has become too censored.”
Adding: “Everything you can say and can’t say is ridiculous. The comedians are placed on the ground and the safest place for us on the planet is us on stage with a willing audience that is ready to listen. We say things that other people are afraid to say, and we say them, hopefully in a funny way, so you use your own mind to think critically and think for yourself. ”

In case you missed it, Chappelle was under fire after viewers called some of his remarks disgusting to the transgender and LGBTQ + community, according to CNN.
Despite the criticism, Netflix is the co-CEO Ted Sarandos defends the new special comedy. In an email from October 8 to the company’s employees, received by The Verge and Variety, the CEO supported the special:
“Several of you have also asked where we draw the line of hatred. We do not allow titles on Netflix that are intended to incite hatred or violence, and we do not believe that The Closer crosses that line, “he wrote. “I admit, however, that distinguishing between commentary and harm is difficult, especially in the stand-up comedy that exists to push boundaries,” Sarandos wrote to staff. “Some people find stand-up art vicious, but our members like it, and that’s an important part of offering our content.”
