Ricky Young, a mother who was pulled from her car and beaten by Philadelphia police in front of her baby, reached a $ 2 million deal with the city.
The young woman inadvertently rushed to protest in October 2020 over the police murder of Walter Wallace Jr. She realized her mistake and tried to turn around and leave the stage. In a viral video shot by viewers, police beat the woman and the young teenager with batons, leaving them bloody and wounded. They then handcuffed the couple and separated Young from their nephew and her 2-year-old son for hours. Young’s hearing-impaired child lost his hearing aids in confusion.
In a subsequently deleted viral social media post from the Fraternal Police Order, a photo of a Philadelphia officer holding Young’s son states that he was “” lost during the brutal riots in Philadelphia, wandering barefoot in an area that feels complete lawlessness. ”
Young’s attorneys say it is the largest settlement in Philadelphia’s history for a fatal accident. But they say this settlement is not enough for the terror and continuing pain this family has suffered.

Young and her lawyers say it is not a monetary agreement. They want the district attorney to file charges against every employee involved in the incident. They are also suing the National Fraternal Police Order.
According to The New York Times, Daniel Outlow, the Philadelphia Police Commissioner, said in a statement that the behavior of some officers involved in the event “violates the mission of the Philadelphia Police Department.”
