TSR Foodies: If you’ve bought chicken in the last decade (and with the exception of vegans / vegetarians, I guess that’s all), then you may be eligible for a salary!

A recent $ 181 million lawsuit means anyone who has bought a chicken from a grocery store in the past 10 years may be eligible to collect some dough.

Law companies Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro and Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll have announced that they have reached an agreement with six major chicken producers – Fieldale, George’s, Mar Jac, Peco, Pilgrim’s and Tyson – in their case for broilers with chicken antitrust law, in which is said to be a fix in the poultry industry, according to Food and Wine.

The court has yet to approve the agreement later this year, but reports are now being accepted by eligible consumers.

According to the notice, eligible claimants include anyone who “bought fresh or frozen raw chicken” between 1 January 2009 and 31 July 2019.

The claim states that the chicken placed on the market as halal, beehive, free-range or organic does not qualify for a class action.

This applies to chicken meat “from any of the above brands or their alleged accomplices for personal consumption” between this period in the following states: California, DC, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island (after July 15, 2013), South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin.

Given that this may have been a long time ago, the good news is that no proof of purchase is required, which makes it easier to file a claim. You can file a claim here.

Claims are accepted until December 31, 2022.

The chicken industry is going through this! Since the pandemic, there has been a shortage of supply with increasing demand, especially for chicken wings.

Even WingStop had to start selling chicken thighs in return.
