Mia Marcano’s family files against the wrongful death claim against her apartment complex

The family of 19-year-old Mia Marcano, who disappeared from her Florida apartment and was later found dead in a wooded area, filed a lawsuit for wrongful death against her apartment complex and the company that runs it.

The lawsuit, filed earlier this week, alleges negligence by companies that own and operate the luxury Arden Villas apartments in Orlando, where Mia lived and worked, according to CNN. The lawsuit seeks compensation in excess of $ 30,000, excluding interest, costs and attorney’s fees.

The lawsuit also alleges that the battery belonged to Armando Manuel Caballero, an apartment maintenance officer at Arden Villas and the main suspect in Mia’s death, who took his own life after her disappearance, investigators said.

Mia disappeared on September 24 after failing to board a flight home, and her body was found on October 2 in a wooded area near a residential complex where Caballero once lived. According to officials, Mia’s arms and legs are tied and her mouth is taped.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina said earlier that investigators “strongly believe that Armando Caballero is responsible” for Mia’s death, and the case identifies Caballero’s estate as a defendant.

Authorities said they believe Caballero, who was found dead on September 27, entered Mia’s apartment without her permission.

“We now know that Cabalero’s maintenance keychain was used to enter Mia’s apartment on Friday afternoon, around 4:30 p.m. That would be about 30 minutes before she finished her shift in the apartment complex, “Mina said earlier.

The family wants to keep the apartment complex responsible.

“Arden Villas gave Armando Caballero the unimpeded access he needed to kill Mia. They must be held accountable for their negligence, “said family lawyer Daryl K. Washington in a press release.

The case said Mia was uncomfortable with Caballero’s interest in her and her family felt the apartment had not taken her concerns seriously.

“Marcano expressed his concerns to Arden Villas employees, as well as to his parents, who were concerned that … the Arden Villas manager did not take the safety concerns of employees and tenants very seriously,” the lawsuit said.

According to the case, the appeal requires a court hearing.
