It’s time to turn drinks into a cafe! I always feel so happy when I come up with a delicious recipe for a favorite cafe. I find it so rewarding to know that I can make something just as delicious using useful ingredients for a fraction of the price. My salty caramel latte is one of my favorites, but today I’m digressing from coffee and focusing on tea. In particular tea matches. My latte recipe makes a warm, sparkling and creamy treat.

I’ve loved the game since a friend first introduced me to it in high school, but if you’ve never met the game, I’ll introduce you.

Matcha is a specially prepared type of green tea. Growers have covered tea plants in the last few weeks of their growth to cause an increase in chlorophyll levels. Then, when the leaves are picked, they are dried and ground to a fine powder. I wrote a whole post about the match and the health benefits if you want to learn more.

For most teas, the chopped tea leaves are soaked in hot water and then removed. But unlike other teas, for matcha tea, powdered tea leaves are mixed in hot water.

For the match, the latte powder is beaten together with a little hot water and then mixed with warm milk.

How to make a latte with Matcha green tea

Matcha lattes are super easy to prepare. All you need is a match powder, warm water, milk and a little honey. Most are daily ingredients that you probably already have. For the match I use Pique Tea matcha packets. Each packet is exactly the amount I need for this recipe.

To do this: Heat the milk in a pan on the hob. While heating, use a small stirrer to mix together the powder powder, warm water and honey in a small bowl or at the bottom of your cup. Pour warm milk and you’re done.

  • Matcha latte with vanilla – Add a little vanilla extract
  • Latte with green tea matcha with ice – Use cold milk and pour it on ice
  • Late with foam – use a French press to make your warm milk sparkling by pumping the handle up and down

I have a small traditional bamboo stirrer that I use to break the match in hot water. This is not absolutely necessary, but it really makes the match nice, smooth and creamy. Wrap it with a little match and a cup and it will be a sweet gift for a tea lover!

Ingredients

  • 1 package match to dust (or 1 tsp)
  • 1 TBSP hot water
  • 1 TBSP honey (optionally)
  • 1 cup milk (warmed)

Instructions

  • In a glass, beat together the powder, hot water and honey.

  • Pour the warmed milk.

  • Enjoy!

Notes

If you love foam and don’t have an espresso machine, you can make frothy milk by pouring the warmed milk into a French press and turning the plunger up and down until the milk is light and frothy.
