Students at Coosa High School in Rome, Georgia, say they were expelled for protesting the Confederate flag.
According to the local station WGCL, the students were caught on camera waving a Confederate flag and were reportedly undisciplined. When several black, white and Latin American students decided to protest the flag, parents said the children had been removed. However, the students claim that the white students who protested were not removed, but only the colored students.
Student organizer Jail Murray he told the paper: “I feel that the Confederate flag should not be flown at all. It is a racist symbol and makes me feel disrespected.”
Desia Fain, another student organizer, also added: “I felt really disrespectful about how the school didn’t do anything about it and when we weren’t allowed to wear BLM (Black Lives Matter) things and they were allowed to carry a racist flag around.

Murray and Fain said they began making plans to protest racism after the administration failed to discipline students who waved the Confederate flag and allegedly spewed racial insults against black students.
The WGCL reports that a parent of one of the high school students provided them with a message through the school intercom, where the administrator warned students that they would be punished if they tried to protest.
“The administration is aware of the planned protest for tomorrow,” the administrator said. “The police will be present here at the school, and if students insist on encouraging this type of activity, they will be disciplined for inciting unrest.”
Subsequently, the students, who planned to protest, went to the office to talk to the administrators. It reportedly then became a controversy after students complained about the lack of disciplinary action taken against students using racial insults.
As a result, students say only their black peers have been removed, even though students of all races face administrators. On Friday (October 8th), they rallied together to protest in front of the school throughout the day. Those who were not expelled chose to miss school with the permission and support of their parents.
“All African Americans removed them and did not remove them. Lillian Huckabee told the station. “They didn’t remove me and I was screaming loudly. That’s because I’m white. We are not allowed to wear Black Lives Matter shirts or the LGBTQ flag, but children may have Confederate flags and say nothing. ”
The parents of the expelled students say they are upset that their problems have been unresolved for so long. They are also angry that their children will have to miss their return due to the suspension, which lasts from October 8 to 22.
