As the investigation into the July 7 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise continues, a prosecutor believes the current prime minister should be charged. Now he has been replaced.
According to PBS NewsHour, on September 13, former Haitian Attorney General Bed-Ford Claude asked a judge to charge Prime Minister Ariel Henry and asked officials to ban him from leaving the country.
Claude wanted to meet with Henry to ask him about Joseph Badio, a suspect in Mois’s murder, by calling him twice just hours after the murder. Claude claims the calls were made at 4:03 and 4:20 a.m. on July 7 and lasted seven minutes
Claude also claims that a government official tweeted last month that Prime Minister Henry had told him he had never spoken to Joseph Badio.
Claude said in the order calling for Henry to be prosecuted: “There are enough compromising elements … to prosecute Henry and demand his direct accusation.”
On September 13, Justice Minister Rockefeller Vincent asked for additional security for Claude, as the prosecutor received “important and disturbing” threats, PBS NewsHour reported.
Now, according to NPR, Prime Minister Henry is asking for Claude to be replaced. A new prosecutor was sworn in last night (September 14th).

Mois, 53, was accused of autocracy and corruption by his critics, sparking mass demonstrations. He has been in power since February 2017, but his opposition said his five-year term began in 2016 and was due to end in February 2021. However, these results were denied by Haiti’s Electoral Council and Mois remained in office.
President Moïse was assassinated on the morning of July 7 when an armed group approached his property and opened fire. A motive has not yet been revealed.
More than 40 people have been arrested.
