In a new essay on TIME magazine, actress Gabriel Union talks about her journey through surrogacy in 2018
The 48-year-old had previously revealed that she had been diagnosed with adenomyosis, prompting her to consider other pregnancy options.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, adenomyosis is a condition in which tissue from the lining of the uterus grows into the uterine wall, thickening the uterus. This can lead to heavy menstruation, pain during sex and the menstrual cycle, and infertility.
Union shared that in 2016 her doctor Kelly Bake informs her that if she wants to have a healthy baby, surrogacy will be the best option.
“I was not ready to do it,” she wrote in the essay. “I wanted to try to be pregnant. To watch my body expand and shift to accommodate this miracle inside me. ”
The union is soon preparing to take a drug called Lupron, which would give it only a 30% chance of giving birth to a baby, but that would also mean that it will temporarily “throw [her] body in early menopause and you can break bones very easily. “
Her husband, Dwayne Wade, eventually changed her mind, “you’ve done enough,” she remembers what he said.
“As much as we want this baby, I want you,” she recalls, saying. “We’ve lost too much in our relationship to be able to encourage you to do more with your body and soul.”

Union admitted that she was not sure about the process of surrogacy at the beginning of her trip, but after the meeting she became calm Natalie, its possible replacement.
In March 2018, Natalie said she was pregnant and showed that her baby was swollen at the end of the first trimester. However, this was difficult for the Union to see.

She added: “It was a pain. I had so many miscarriages … looking at the screen, I realized how many potential babies I had lost. That’s why I cried. “
After 38 hours of birth and emergency section, Kaavia James was born a few weeks earlier.
“Relief, anxiety, horror, joy, resentment, disbelief, gratitude … and also a breakup. I hoped that when I saw her, there would be a moment of locking. I looked at Natalie and her husband. In concluding her essay, Union reminded readers that it was important to share her story.
