Fat Joe is doing his best to help his home community in the Bronx after a deadly fire Sunday. The tragic apartment fire claimed the lives of 17 people, and Fat Joe joined forces with the mayor of New York to launch a fund to raise money for the victims and their families. Yesterday, the rapper announced on social media, asking his followers for help.
Joe tweeted, “My heart is saddened by the tragedy in my beloved Bronx,” he tweeted. “Please join me in supporting this community by donating to the Bronx Foundation at fatjoe.me/donatebronx.” Joe has invited several of his famous friends to join the cause, according to Revolt. JayZ and Nas are currently on board to make donations. The reports state that in addition to his contributions, he connects with other friends in various industries, including entertainment, music, business and sports.
Born in the Bronx, Peter Gunz also works in the community to help those affected by the fire. He shared a video on an MTA regional bus full of bags of donated items. While posting the information on Instagram, he urged people to go out and eat. New details about the deadly fire have emerged. According to CNN, the office of the chief medical examiner in New York confirmed that all 17 victims died from smoke inhalation. The finding comes from an electric heater that caused a fire in a duplex that flooded the 19-storey residential building with smoke.
Reports also show that firefighters said the smoke had spread through the apartment door and the door to the 15th-floor staircase, which remained open even though it should have closed automatically. The youngest victim of the fire was a 5-year-old child. Some of the survivors of the fire have returned to the apartments on the top floor of the building. New York Emergency Management spokeswoman Ines Bebea advised individually not to return people to their apartments quickly. Our thoughts continue to point to those affected.
