News of the COVID-19 omicron variant spread as officers prepared people with the expectation that the virus would soon make its way to the United States. It didn’t take long before a case was discovered on American soil.
According to CNN, the first casting of the omicron variant was discovered in California. Speaking at a White House news briefing, Dr Fauci shared details of the case and said the infected man had traveled from South Africa on November 22 and tested positive for COVID-19 on November 29.
He went on to say that the person infected with the virus had been fully vaccinated and was experiencing “mild symptoms that are improving at this time”. The person is currently under quarantine, and those who have been in close contact with the individual have so far tested negative for the virus.
The California and San Francisco Public Health Departments and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the case through genomic sequencing conducted at the University of California, San Francisco.
Like previously Earlier this week, President Biden addressed the nation on the omicron option, saying: “First, this option is a cause for concern, not panic. We have the best vaccine in the world. The best drugs, the best scientists and we learn more every day. And we will fight this option with scientific and informed action and speed. No chaos and confusion. “
The variant was first identified by a research team in South Africa. It was first discovered in Botswana, and cases have been reported elsewhere in South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Japan and Canada.
