Lil Nas X’s marketing team is working hard to promote his debut album Montero. From sarcastic billboards to prosthetic, pregnant bellies, they have found ways to keep the project at the center of a viral conversation. The album was finally released (intended for pun) on Friday, and Lil Nas X gave a different opinion on how Montero cured it.
“I like to joke, but seriously, this album was therapy for me,” Lil Nas X tweeted on Saturday.
Jokingly, Lil Nas X means trolling. In addition to the above, he shared fake congratulations from celebrities. One of these fake messages actually points to Obama as the sender of a baby shower basket with extras. And no, it wasn’t real.
However, the promotional party did not end there. The day the album fell Lizo admitted she’s not a fan of Lil Nas X, but that his latest project has her “Literally peeing, fucking and cumming.” It turned out that it was just Lil Nas X trolling again, using a link that fills in the same tweet when clicked.
Some unexpected players also joined the Montero promo game. The children’s TV characters Teletubbies joked, asking if they could “get a feature on the next album.” Lil Nas X, in charge of humorous energy, responded by giving everyone their role in the fictional collaboration.
“Okay, I’ll bet,” Lil Nas X tweeted.
However, despite fomenting controversy over artistry and sales, Lil Nas X says Montero has hit it off with therapeutic benefits.
